How much Australian Govt housing is on Airbnb and other short-term rental websites?
We’ve seen one case of illegal subletting in Australia so far (in Sydney CBD) but this recent case in Boston suggests it’s more widespread here than we know.
While a lot of state housing is in prime areas, you don’t need to be in Bondi Beach to make extra cash subletting. The demand is there even in Parramatta and Eastwood. Anywhere there is a quick train to the city or lots of young immigrants for parents to visit, you’ll find short-term rentals.
