Airbnb, Homeaway fight Santa Monica rules
Here’s an example of some tough short-term rental rules. Santa Monica forces Airbnb and Homeaway to verify hosts are registered with the city.
Seems sensible? Not to Airbnb and Homeaway. They took the city to court, complaining that the rules violated the first amendment and the obscure California Coastal Act.
Note the tactics – they’ll fight tooth and nail to grow their businesses. Just imagine what they’re doing that we don’t see.
