Half of Dublin rentals now short-term
A new study out today suggests nearly 50% of rentals in Dublin are now off the market for long-term tenants, because landlords are focusing on holiday letting.
No surprise given short-term rentals are more profitable than long-term. Also, no rent controls…
According to the story there are 1,419 Airbnb listings and 1,258 long-term rentals in Dublin. What’s key though is that these Airbnb listings are by investors, so the properties are available full-time and never available for short-term rental, and would exclude people renting a room in the house they owned.
This is the plague that is affecting more and more cities across the world. A crackdown on investment short-term rentals is key to controlling the problem. Hopefully NSW’s upcoming legislation does just this.
