Great article on how Australia is risking overtourism with its growth-centric approach.
Govts like more tourism because it means more revenue. But there’s a threshold that a community will support. Tourists for them are a necessary evil, and all would prefer fewer tourists spending more money.
Airbnbs and short-term rentals exacerbate the problem because tourist activity spreads to once-quiet areas, including next door (esp in apartment blocks,#strata).
The backlash has started in Europe and will hit Aus soon…
